Søren Houmøller
Søren Houmøller (41) is Managing Director and founder of 1st Mile.
Søren Houmøller, 1st Mile
Søren has 16 years experience in bringing new, clean technologies to the market place. Prior to founding 1st Mile, Søren was director of the venture capital arm of DONG Energy. He was responsible for more than 75 investment case screenings and carried through successful investments in Stirling and Amminex, both named in the Guardian's Top 100 cleantech companies worldwide.
Earlier in his career, Søren held management positions in the companies dk-TEKNIK and FORCE Technology and built up extensive operational experience, including project management, portfolio management, P&L responsibility and financial skills. Søren holds a masters degree in energy engineering from the Technical University of Denmark, as well as an Executive MBA from Scandinavian International Management Institute, SIMI.
Søren has two sons, Jakob (16) and Joakim (12). He lives in a house in the forest just north of Copenhagen with his girlfriend Monica, change management consultant and owner the company Acquiro. In his spare time, Søren plays defender on the Vedbæk Vipers under water rugby team and enjoys a run in the forest.

Kim Kern
Kim is senior project manager and responsible for research and development projects with commercial focus at 1st Mile.
Kim Kern, 1st Mile
Kime has 21 years of experience in project management, contract management and personnel management. Through his previous jobs as purchasing manager with GEA Process Engineering A/S and Head og Department with FLSmidth Minerals A/S Kim developed a great expertise in contract management, optimisation of internal procedures and establishment of synergies between departments.
Before this, Kim was Project Manager at FLSmidth Minerals A / S, where he got considerable experience in administration of contracts, financial management and detailed planning and execution of national and international projects in size 20-150 million DKK.
Kim has a B. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Helsingør Teknikum (1989) and he also has a background as an electrician.
Kim has four children and lives in Helsingør.
Maiken Brøchner Melgaard
Maiken is a consultant in business development and innovation.
Maiken Brøchner Melgaard, 1st Mile
Before Maiken joined the team at 1st Mile she was a consultant at FORCE Technology, where she worked with the implementation of Lean with, among others, Vestas Towers and Lundbeck. Here Maiken built fundamental expertise in identifying potential for improvement, implementation of change processes and a strong understanding of the interaction of processes in the value chain.
Previously Maiken worked as project manager, also at FORCE Technology, where she obtained valuable experience in project management, financial management and project communication.
Maiken has a B.Sc. in Export Engineering from VIA University College, Horsens (2004).
For two years Maiken lived in San Francisco, where she among other things studied Project Management at the University of California, Berkeley (2008).
Maiken has two children and lives in Frederiksberg with her husband Mads.
